We’ve all been to “that” wedding, right? That wedding where you have no idea what is going on and all of the guests are asking themselves “when does this thing start?” or “are they ever going to serve that cake?”
Heather and Mark recently sat down with Linsey Fornaca and Leah Tung on the Yorba Linda and Brea Advice Givers Podcast. Linsey and Leah are wedding planners for their self-owned company, The Double Knot. After chatting with them, we see major advantages of hiring a professional to manage your wedding day. Here are a few reasons to consider if you are debating whether or not to hire a wedding planner.
Maybe you are the “Type A” bride or perhaps the “Go-With-The-Flow” bride. Either way, a wedding planner can help you in some form or fashion. The great thing about wedding planners is they can be involved as much or as little as you prefer.
Most standardly, a bride will hire a planner to assist them with the overall theme of the wedding, to maintain all of the logistical details of the event and to keep planning on schedule. Linsey and Leah help brides by making a schedule of tasks to be completed. They will give “a homework schedule for each month. So [the bride and groom] can tell pretty much immediately if they are behind schedule within a month.”
For the bride who wants to plan every detail but needs help executing on the day of, they may hire a wedding planner just a few weeks before the wedding day. In this case, the planner will be brought up to speed on the overall vision and the details of the wedding day. They are there to make sure everything runs smoothly while the bride has time to relax and get ready before the ceremony.
Perhaps most importantly, wedding planners will worry about everything you don’t want to worry about before walking down the aisle. When it is the day of your wedding, you don’t want to be stressed that the flowers are arriving an hour late or the caterer forgot to bring enough salad for all of your guests. Let the wedding planner manage these mini-crisis so you can focus on celebrating your “I do”.
- Reduced Prices from Vendors
Wedding planners work with all types of wedding vendors: photographer, caterer, florist, DJ, etc. They know which vendors deliver the best services and will usually reuse their favorites. This gives them and their clients a pricing advantage that the client would not be able to get on their own. Think about it, you will only plan a wedding once but a wedding planner will plan hundreds, making it much easier for them to get a reduced priced.
Also, a wedding planner can make the right recommendation based on the theme of your wedding day. Whether you are planning a rustic, romantic reception or a casual beach wedding, planners will know which vendors fit best for your theme. Most importantly, they will know which vendors have bad reputations and can help you steer clear of those that could cause a wedding day disaster.
- Help Make Your Pinterest Board a Reality
Do you have a wedding Pinterest board? Are you overwhelmed by all of the options? Wedding planners can help take your Pinterest board and develop a cohesive look for your wedding. Pinterest is a great resource for finding wedding day inspiration. But we have all seen (and laughed at) Pinterest fails. It’s not always as easy to recreate the perfect center piece as Pinterest might have you believe. Or as cheap.
Linsey and Leah pointed out that wedding planners can take the images from Pinterest and dissect what is needed to make them into reality: what is included in the overall look and how much will it cost? The bride and wedding planner can then work backwards to identify what the bride really likes and what fits into the budget.
- Coordination wth Guests and Family
At the end of the day, your wedding is an event for your friends and family to come together and celebrate the love between you and your significant other. Beyond managing half a dozen vendors, wedding coordinators can help make sure guests enjoy the event. Whether it is getting water for your uncle who had too much to drink or helping your elderly grandma safely to her seat, wedding planners will act as an extra set of eyes to make sure that the guests will have a memorable experience on your big day.
As The Double Knot Twins put it best, wedding planners can help take the bridezilla out of the bride by taking stress off of their shoulders. And really, doesn’t a stress-free wedding day sound worth it?
